Interesting list, but I think the priorities are all wrong. I could go on about great guitar solos, but a few pop right straight to mind… guitar breaks that have moved me to break out my air guitar over the decades:

George Harrison/The Beatles: “Slow Down” and “Roll Over Beethoven” (This, my friends, is what rock 'n' roll is all about. George was the MAN!)

The Beatles (I think it was Paul that played this raga-styled solo): “Taxman”

Jimmy Page: That absolutely awesome break in “Whole Lotta Love,” which I got to see them do live in 19-friggtin'-seventy, can ya believe it?

Eric ClaptonCream: “Strange Brew”

Honorable Mention to Roger McGuinn/The Byrds: “Eight Miles High”

Keith Richards/The Stones: “Sympathy for the Devil” (probably the greatest solo in a rock song ever)

And of course, Hendrix… well, take your pick… I personally dig “Love or Confusion”

There are so many others of course (like Buddy Holly and AC/DC, fer instance),  and it's all subjective, but these are a handful that never fail to get a rockin' rise outta me.

AWESOME list, Kaleidoscope!  I am going to try and find them all. Interesting to see wholiikes what in terms of what I have published.  Glad to see that Leonard Cohen is being appreciated.  Thanks again!  blessings….watch for them….!!

Speakin' of Jimmy Page (who says he's very up for a Zeppelin tour), I've been thinking about two more solos from back in the very early days:

“Communication Breakdown” - Led Zeppelin I - Jeez, this is firey, full speed riffing at it's finest.

“Since I'e Been Lovin' You” - Led Zeppelin III - I fell in love with this solo from the instant I first heard it. This is one of the bluesiest, best songs the Zep ever did, IMHO, and the solo… Lawd Almighty! Words can't describe what Page accomplishes on this one. I wish it were in my power, but all I can say is, play this tune and see what I mean.

Now, I know Pete Townsend of the Who contributed some of the world's greatest guitar solos. Just need to recall which. “(Out of My Brain on the ) 5:15” from Quadrophenia jumps straight to mind. I lost my vinyl copy of that album a long time ago; really need to buy a new edition. Without a doubt, one of the greatest rock LPs ever made.
