Various cultural and ethnic traditions find new forms of expression and celebration within Second Life, from re-creations of real life cities, to music festivals, art showings, literary readings and immersive historic builds.  As Second Life grows increasingly international, we should expect more cultural events that bring together diaspora ethnic communities in ways that no other medium could support.

Festivalstpatricks For example, from March 9 -16, the Festival of Saint Patrick celebrates the history, culture, and spirit of Ireland and Irish people.  There's a full calendar of events during the entire festival, including live music, poetry, storytelling, art, and history, taking place in both the West of Ireland and Belfast sims. Head to their website for complete event information or teleport directly to the West of Ireland sim. And the Festival is not just for fun and frivolity. Donations are being actively solicited for Project Children, a charity that reaches out to the kids of Northern Ireland. 

Also Coming Up This Week: Science exhibits on display, haiku speed building, teach your avatar Chinese, pink-hued performances to stop gender violence, BBC scientists in the buff, and "morphological freedom" (whatever that means.)  All that, plus a virtual pint of Guinness after the jump....
